Who can be an eye donor ?
Practically anybody above the age of one year can donate his or her eyes.
Spectacle and contact lens users, persons with diabetes, hypertension and
personss blind from retinal and optic nerve diseases can also donate the
eyes. Persons who have undergone eye surgeries like cataract, LASIK or
laser eye surgery, glaucoma surgeries, etc. can also donate their eyes.
Pledging the eye
Pledging is your determination to donate your eyes after death.
This is a noble act but it requires relatives or friends to carry out your
pledge after death. Even if you have not pledged your eyes, you can still
donate them.
How to
donate your eyes?
You call the nearest eye bank or 1919 in Mumbai [24 hrs] after the
death of your beloved relatives or friends. The eyes should be collected
within 6 hours of death. So call at your earliest.
You
can also do the following to keep the donors eyes viable:

Switch off the overhead fan.

Keep the eyes of deceased
closed and covered with moist cotton.

Raise the head end of the
body by 6 inches.
